The WelCOM project proposes a reference platform implementation utilizing wireless sensor networking, mobile computing devices and web services to perform e-maintenance tasks. The platform will utilize advanced software tools and techniques such as Novelty Detection & Diagnostic Algorithms, Semantic Maintenance Data Representation, Portal Administration and Remote Data Services, including Mobile and Wireless solutions. These components of the WelCOM reference platform are being developed with a view to facilitating interoperability with existing automation data acquisition and enterprise IT systems (CMMS, ERP, etc).

The WelCOM workplan comprises 9 workpackages:

  • WP1 - REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS, SPECIFICATIONS & ARCHITECTURE
  • WP2 - SENSORS DEFINITION AND COMMISSIONING
  • WP3 - WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKING
  • WP4 - SENSOR PLATFORM HARDWARE & SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT
  • WP5 - SENSOR EMBEDDED INTELLIGENCE
  • WP6 - INTELLIGENT MAINTENANCE SERVICES
  • WP7 - SYSTEM INTEGRATION, TESTING & TUNING
  • WP8 - PILOT INSTALLATION & TESTING
  • WP9 - VALORISATION & PROJECT MANAGEMENT

WP1 - REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS, SPECIFICATIONS & ARCHITECTURE

This workpackage involves the development of the detailed requirements specifications for the hardware and software tools that are being developed as part of this project. The test cases used to validate the system are specified here.

WP2 - SENSORS DEFINITION AND COMMISSIONING

This work package involves commissioning and extensive lab testing of sensor technologies as hardware components of an integrated design.

WP3 - WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKING

This WP involves distinct objectives relating to the development of WelCOM’s intelligent sensor network, code tested frameworks and APIs along with application-specific software patterns based on wireless network protocols, data models and sensor embedded middleware services.

WP4 - SENSOR PLATFORM HARDWARE & SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

This workpackage will implement a prototype WelCOM sensor module that can manage the input of several sensors, and which provides the capability to send these data via a gateway to the WelCOM infrastructure. The prototypes’ main sampling capabilities will be driven by optical sensor integrated components.

WP5 - SENSOR EMBEDDED INTELLIGENCE

In this Work Package the software components that constitute the WelCOM’s sensor level intelligence will be designed and developed that can effectively fit and operate in the WelCOM prototype sensor module.

This workpackage develops a set of software services (web based) that will supply maintenance advice. The software modules utilize data feeds supplied by sensor reporting services and its maintenance specific knowledge base content.

WP6 - INTELLIGENT MAINTENANCE SERVICES

This workpackage develops a set of software services (web based) that will supply maintenance advice. The software modules utilize data feeds supplied by sensor reporting services and its maintenance specific knowledge base content.

WP7 - SYSTEM INTEGRATION, TESTING & TUNING

The objective of WP7 is to bring together all the components of the WelCOM platform and test their interoperability and conformance to specifications. The end result will be a functional integrated WelCOM prototype, ready for end user site testing.

WP8 - PILOT INSTALLATION & TESTING

The pilot testing of the WelCOM components and system at the facilities of KLEEMANN Lifts takes place here. The system is tested under the validation scenarios specified earlier in order to demonstrate its functionality.

WP9 - VALORISATION & PROJECT MANAGEMENT

This workpackage provides support for the smooth progress of the technical work. In particular it deals with administrative, financial and IPR issues. The project dissemination and exploitation strategy is executed here in order to maximize the project impact.
